For our Christmas 2020 programming, we did something we've never done before - a traditional
Māori hāngī! We started recording at dawn and produced audio for radio, video and photography.

CHRISTMAS HĀNGĪ
As part of our Christmas programming on Newstalk ZB we included a one-hour special featuring Petra Bagust & Pio Terei putting down a hāngi.
The final product telescoped hours of recorded audio into a 53-minute special featuring live music, a FaceTime interview with Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, chats with Newstalk ZB hosts Jax van Buuren & John Cowan, and a sing-along with children's TV presenter Suzy Cato.
As the programme went to air, Newstalk ZB listeners were welcomed to the table of a meaningful Christmas celebration full of laughter, warmth and aroha.
Conscious of the strong visual aspect of this event we shot stills and video that we then employed as promotional content for the programme across Newstalk ZB's social channels.
