A moving three minute tribute montage of Martin Crowe interview segments over the song
7 Years by Lucas Graham. Created and distributed to radio stations throughout NZ within three hours of Martin’s death being announced, tapping into the mood of the nation.

MARTIN CROWE

TRIBUTE

Martin Crowe passed away on the 3rd of March 2016. Moments after the news was announced we got busy producing a three minute montage piece for general play on New Zealand radio stations.

The montage was made from snippets of an exclusive interview with Martin on Real Life (on Newstalk ZB) recorded not long prior to his passing. In that interview with John Cowan, the great cricketer had shared frankly and freely about his life struggles and renewed priorities after going through cancer.

We capitalised upon the structure of the recently released song 7 Years by Lucas Graham, which reflects upon the various stages of life, and we then edited the interview to mirror the arc of the song. We mixed the instrumental and vocal versions of the track to give space for the key parts Martin’s life and career.

The result was a beautiful, emotionally charged tribute that respectfully tells Martin’s potent life story. Martin’s candidness is disarming, and the music builds to highlight the redemption moments that gave him such peace in his final weeks and months.

The piece was turned around within three hours of hearing the news and was released to radio stations throughout New Zealand in time for the drive shows that same afternoon. It received multiple plays across MediaWorks and NZME stations, including MoreFM Breakfast, Larry Williams Drive and The Breeze network.

The tribute received very positive feedback with announcers and programmers commenting on how moving and respectful the piece was. It was also picked up by the NZ Herald, uploaded to their Soundcloud channel and embedded in one of their key stories about Martin Crowe.
